Everyday: NAMI Maine raises awareness about this serious public health concern and connects people with resources that can help.
This Month: We need your help getting the word out & help to end the stigma around suicide prevention!

2) Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States

… But there is still HOPE. Suicide is preventable, and there are many resources available to help people who are struggling. NAMI is a great resource for information and support, and their website provides a variety of resources specific to Maine residents.

Here are some of the ways NAMI Maine can help:
  • Support Groups: NAMI Maine offers free support groups for people with mental illness and their loved ones.These groups provide a safe and supportive space to share experiences and learn from others.
  • Education Programs: NAMI Maine offers a variety of educational programs on mental health topics, including suicide prevention. These programs can help people learn more about mental illness and how to support those who are struggling.
  • Helpline: NAMI Maine provides information and guidance for people that might be feeling lost or overwhelmed with options. We can help you connect with the resources you need to get help.

Here are some additional things you can do to help prevent suicide:
  • Educate yourself about mental health and suicide prevention:Ā The more you know, the better equipped you will be to help others.
  • Talk openly and honestly about suicide:Ā Don’t be afraid to ask someone if they are thinking about suicide.
  • Listen without judgment:Ā If someone tells you they are thinking about suicide, take them seriously and listen to them without judgment.
  • Encourage them to seek help:Ā Let them know that there are people who care about them and want to help.
