DESCRIPTION:The Virtual Gatekeeper Training for School Staff will be held over three consecutive weeks on Thursdays\, January 11th\, January 18th\, and January 25th from 2:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Participants will receive access to the Zoom link by email prior to the session. \nParticipants must attend ALL three sessions to receive certification. \nThis training provides an accessible\, introductory overview of suicide prevention. The training will provide up-to-date information regarding suicide\, teach basic suicide intervention skills\, increase personal confidence and the ability to effectively respond to suicidal behavior\, and identify helpful resources available to school staff. \nThe Gatekeeper training is the foundation of the Maine Suicide Prevention Program (MSPP). SUMMARY:Assessment & Management Training for Clinicians
DESCRIPTION:The Suicide Assessment and Management Training will be held on Thursday\, February 1\, 2024 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM in the Orange Yurt at The Ecology School\, 184 Simpson Road\, Saco\, ME 04072. \nThe Suicide Assessment and Management Training is designed to prepare a new or seasoned clinician to understand the risk of suicide\, how to approach and complete an effective suicide risk assessment and intervention as well as ongoing management for individuals at increased risk. The focus is on assessment skills for those working in clinical roles including counselors\, social workers\, nurses\, and psychologists.  \nThe Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) will be used as a recommended tool for assessment. A systemic approach to suicide prevention is followed where assessment\, intervention\, Collaborative Safety Planning\, and assured follow-up are the critical elements. DESCRIPTION:The Collaborative Safety Planning Training for School Staff will be held on Friday\, February 2nd from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM in Room 106 at the Maine State Library\, 242 State Street\, Augusta\, ME 04330. \nThis session will provide the tools and process for implementing safety planning for supporting youth at risk in Maine.  \nBest practice recommendations for addressing and managing suicide risk include use of a good assessment tool for determining risk and guiding intervention. A vital next step is the collaborative development and use of a Safety Plan to help an individual to manage themselves during and following periods of crisis. A Safety Plan is a tool and a process for working with a student (and family) to identify and increase the use of coping skills\, social and family support\, and professional resources. DESCRIPTION:The virtual Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) Training will be held on Friday\, March 1st\, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM via Zoom. \nNon-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is the direct\, deliberate destruction of body tissue in the absence of suicidal intent. It has been on the rise over the past two decades. Among youth and young adults\, it is frequently an issue of concern in education\, health\, and behavioral health settings. Though usually not a suicidal act\, there is significant connection between self-injury and suicide risk that must be understood and addressed. \nThis training will review demographics\, risk factors\, and warning signs of self-injury as well as recommendations for assessment\, intervention\, and management of self-injury. DESCRIPTION:The Suicide Assessment and Management Training will be held on Friday\, March 8\, 2024 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM in Room 138 in Eastport Hall at the Bangor Campus of the University of Maine at Augusta\, 128 Texas Ave\, Bangor\, ME 04401. \nThe Suicide Assessment and Management Training is designed to prepare a new or seasoned clinician to understand the risk of suicide\, how to approach and complete an effective suicide risk assessment and intervention as well as ongoing management for individuals at increased risk. The focus is on assessment skills for those working in clinical roles including counselors\, social workers\, nurses\, and psychologists.  \nThe Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) will be used as a recommended tool for assessment. A systemic approach to suicide prevention is followed where assessment\, intervention\, Collaborative Safety Planning\, and assured follow-up are the critical elements.
