SUMMARY:Suicide Prevention and Management in Healthcare Practice Settings
DESCRIPTION:The virtual Suicide Prevention in Management in Healthcare Practice Settings will be held on Monday\, June 9th\, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM over Zoom. *Participants will receive access to the Zoom link in a reminder email that will be sent closer to the training date. \nA Maine citizen is 12.4 times more likely to die by suicide than by homicide (2018-2020)\, yet suicide is among the most preventable forms of death. Tools for practice will be offered to address assessment\, Collaborative Safety Planning and coordinated follow-up. SUMMARY:Collaborative Safety Planning Training
DESCRIPTION:The Collaborative Safety Planning Training will be held on Friday June 6th\, 2025 from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM over Zoom. \n*Participants will receive access to the Zoom link along with training materials in a reminder email that will be sent closer to the training date. \nThis session will provide the tools and process for implementing safety planning for supporting individuals at risk in Maine. \nBest practice recommendations for addressing and managing suicide risk include use of a good assessment tool for determining risk and guiding intervention. A vital next step is the collaborative development and use of a Safety Plan to help an individual to manage themselves during and following periods of crisis. \nA Safety Plan is a tool and a process for working with an individual (and family) to identify and increase the use of coping skills\, social and family support\, and professional resources. It is often used with people at increased risk for suicide\, but it is an excellent tool for use with anyone at risk for escalating crisis. \nQuestions: Please contact Julianne McLaughlin\, Manager of Suicide Prevention\, at (800) 464-5767 x2318 or mspp@namimaine.org \nEvent Attendance: Open to Public

SUMMARY:Protocol Development Training – Suicide Prevention\, Intervention\, & Postvention
DESCRIPTION:The Protocol Development Training will be held on Tuesday\, June 3rd from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Zoom. \nParticipants will receive access to the Zoom link along with training materials in a reminder email that will be sent closer to the training date. \nIf a school or other organization experiences a suicide or a significant suicide attempt\, it is a time of crisis. The likelihood of an organization encountering a potential suicidal situation is real. Maine loses an average of 262 people to suicide every year\, 26 of them youth under age 25. Protocols provide organization staff with direction\, structure\, and support to safely assist in a suicidal situation\, including prevention\, intervention\, and postvention. This is why NAMI Maine is dedicated to ensuring employers and staff have every available resource to create the necessary protocols for dealing with a crisis.  \nThis training provides abundant background resources\, model forms (clinical and administrative)\, and examples of protocols developed by other school districts. \nBecause protocol development is a collaborative effort\, an individual from an organization or school district should not attend this training alone. Please invite administrators and other staff members to register for this training and join you. \nQuestions: Contact Julianne McLaughlin\, Manager of Suicide Prevention\, at (800) 464-5767 x2318 or mspp@namimaine.org \n*Every school district in Maine is required to develop and implement comprehensive protocols informing how they manage suicide prevention\, intervention when there is a risk of suicidal behavior\, and their response in the aftermath of a suicide attempt or loss. \nEvent Attendance: Open to Public

SUMMARY:Creative Toolkit for Traumatic Grief & Loss
DESCRIPTION:Creative Toolkit for Traumatic Grief & Loss\nCo-Facilitated by Kate Beever\, MT-BC & Bodhi Simpson\, PhD\, LCPC\, ATR \nMay 30\, 2025 • 9:30am – 4:30pm \nAuburn Public Library – Androscoggin Community Room\n49 Spring St\, Auburn\, ME 04210 \n6 Contact Hours \nTraumatic grief is a form of grief that occurs in response to a sudden\, acute\, or unexpected loss. Grieving for these unimaginable losses is complicated and can be confusing\, we can become in a sense “trapped” in the pain. The impact of traumatic loss can be challenging to work with through talk therapy alone as it impacts us beyond literal language; it can be challenging to access the words to fully express our complex feelings and experiences. \nIt is important for therapists to learn tools and techniques to help clients to be able to express and integrate traumatic grief. Art and music are powerful pathways to support full expression and to support clients in connecting once again with hope and in discovering new meanings. We are able to come into a new relationship with our grief and pain through creative expression. \nThis workshop offers clinicians experiential hands-on training in creative interventions designed to support clients who have experienced traumatic grief and loss that would be applicable in work with both individuals and groups. \nObjectives \n\nParticipants will gain an introductory understanding of the therapeutic benefits of incorporating art and music therapy creative interventions into traumatic grief work\n\n\nParticipants will learn through personal experience the benefits of creative expression as a tool for navigating traumatic grief\nParticipants will gain an understanding of ethical considerations involved in using creative interventions with clients experiencing traumatic grief\n\n\nParticipants will gain an understanding of the importance of actively constructing a new narrative to integrate the loss and to be able to make sense of the traumatic event as a key part of healing from traumatic grief\n\nFacilitator Bios\nKate Beever\, MA\, MT-BC \nKate Beever\, of Maine Music and Health\, is a board-certified music therapist with a Master’s in Music Psychotherapy from NYU and additional certificates in Neurologic Music Therapy and Remo HealthRhythms facilitation.
